FAQ
Is AION 2 free to play?
Can Elyos and Asmodians play together?
Does the global version have every class?
When exactly can I start playing?
AION 2 is NC’s Unreal Engine 5 sequel to the 2008 MMORPG Aion: The Tower of Eternity — set 200 years later on Atreia, in a world roughly 36 times larger, with free flight across every zone. The global version launches October 5, 2026 on PC via Steam and PURPLE; Founder’s Pack owners start five days earlier on September 30. This guide covers the two decisions worth making before you log in, what the first hours look like, and the mistakes that cost new players real progress.
AION 2 — Official Launch Reveal Trailer
What kind of game is AION 2?
An MMORPG in the classic mold, rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. Two hundred years after the original, the Last War has toppled the Tower of Aion and the Bulwark — a veil of light — now splits the world between Elysea and Asmodae, with the Balaur returning and Daeva powers on the wane. Mechanically it pairs an action-ized tab-target hybrid combat system with a huge PvE endgame (NC advertises more than 200 dungeons) and cross-server faction warfare in the Abyss.
Practical launch details: PC only — the developers have stated there is no mobile version globally, with console in preparation — roughly 100 GB of install space, eight interface languages, and regional servers across NA, SA, EU, and Asia. It is free to play, with an optional $15/month Membership that gates the trading economy — more on that below.
Which faction should I pick first?
This is the one choice you cannot casually walk back: Elyos and Asmodians are separated at the server level — NC’s structural answer to the faction imbalance that dogged the original. There is no cross-faction play, so the correct pick is whichever side your friends or guild are rolling on.
The good news: faction choice costs you nothing mechanically. All eight launch classes are available to both factions, so decide with your community, not a spreadsheet.
Which class should I play?
You don’t actually pick one at character creation. Every character begins as an Adventurer and advances into a class after the opening stretch, so your first session doubles as a trial period before the real commitment. The eight global launch classes:
| Class | Weapon / role |
|---|---|
| Templar | Sword and shield, tank |
| Gladiator | Greatsword |
| Assassin | Daggers |
| Ranger | Bow |
| Sorcerer | Spellbook caster |
| Spiritmaster | Orb-wielding summoner (some outlets list it as “Elementalist”) |
| Cleric | Mace, primary healer |
| Chanter | Staff, buff support |
One roster caveat: Brawler, the ninth class, joined the Korean version in its Chapter 1 update and is not in the global launch roster — expect it to trail by roughly half a year or more. For a full per-class breakdown see our class overview; for launch-build rankings see the class tier list.
How is the global version different from Korea’s?
The global release is a modified Season 1 build: level cap 45 instead of 50, eight classes instead of nine, a single $15 Membership tier instead of the Korean version’s roughly $45 two-tier scheme, and about a year’s worth of Korean quality-of-life and balance changes baked in from day one. Practically, this means guides written for the Korean servers will get numbers wrong — check our global vs. Korea breakdown before trusting any pre-launch advice that doesn’t name its version.
What do the first few hours look like?
The announced flow is a main-story spine that walks you from Adventurer to class advancement, with dungeons and free-flight exploration filling the gaps. Flight is worth learning immediately — the developers describe it as a combat system, not a travel shortcut — and it reshapes both exploration and fighting. Our flight guide covers what’s confirmed and what’s still pending.
The September 17–18 Launch Scale Test (level cap 37, progress wiped) gave players a two-day taste of this opening on the global build, and the servers held a 73,761 concurrent peak on Steam alone during the first six hours. Honest caveat: the test was too short for reliable hour-by-hour pacing data, so precise “time to cap” claims are to be calibrated at launch.

First-session checklist
- Pre-load. The client is roughly 100 GB — download before your start date, whether that’s September 30 (Founder’s Pack) or October 5.
- Lock faction and server with your group. Server-separated factions make this the only truly irreversible day-one decision.
- Follow the main story. It drives class advancement and unlocks systems in order.
- Register for the official newsletter. NC is giving a Pagati pet plus a choice of one of four pets, redeemable at launch.
- Check the coupon menu. There’s a coupon system under Settings → Miscellaneous → Register Coupon (verify the exact path in the global build), and our codes page tracks active codes as they appear.
What mistakes should new players avoid?
- Over-enhancing throwaway gear. In the Korean version, gear enhances up to +15 and failed attempts past +10 consume materials — whether the global build keeps identical numbers is to be confirmed at launch, but the safe habit transfers: don’t sink rare materials into items you’ll replace while leveling.
- Assuming free-to-play means full economy access. In the global version, the Marketplace auction house, the Kina↔Quna Exchange, and player-to-player trade all sit behind the optional $15/month Membership — see the membership and economy guide before you plan around trading.
- Picking a faction before checking where friends play. Server-separated factions can’t be bridged later.
- Waiting for Brawler. It isn’t in the launch roster — pick from the eight.
- Buying a Founder’s Pack blind. All three tiers ($24.99 / $49.99 / $99.99) buy the same five-day head start plus 30 days of Membership and cosmetics — our Founder’s Pack breakdown helps you decide whether any of them is worth it for you.
TL;DR
Pick your faction with your friends, start as an Adventurer, advance into the class that felt best, learn to fly early, and don’t feed the enhancement machine your rare materials. Then read the leveling guide for the road to 45, check the release date FAQ for server timing, and once you’re established, the Abyss guide is where the faction war actually happens.
